The Greenwich Choral Society announces its Annual Holiday Concerts with a new Family Concert Saturday, December 7th at 3:00 PM at Christ Church, Greenwich. This special concert will be a family-friendly celebration with sing-alongs of familiar carols and loads of laughter. Our musicians will guide you through a toe-tapping, hand-clapping hour of musical magic. Kids will get in free! For free tickets, call the Box Office at 203-622-5136.
The traditional concerts Saturday, December 7th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 8th at 3:00 PM will feature John Rutter’s Gloria. Written for large brass orchestra, percussion, and organ, one critic called this work, “…a beautiful musical experience even for those who aren’t religious… Rutter has obviously taken to heart the concept of dancing for joy – that there is praise in the dance… This work trips the light fantastic in every bar… It’s a marvelous piece of praise and a wonderful composition.”
The program will also feature Daniel Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata, Langston Hughes’ and Margaret Bonds’ The Ballad of the Brown King, Hanukkah songs and traditional carols. We are thrilled to welcome The Greenwich Academy Madrigal Singers, conducted by Erica McCants who will perform at our Saturday concerts.
The traditional December Holiday Concerts are a significant part of our community’s holiday celebrations. Join with your neighbors to usher in this 99th season with the Greenwich Choral Society under the leadership of the Choral Society’s Music Director and Conductor, Dr. Christine Howlett and special guest, Edward Pleasant, baritone and master of ceremonies.
Tickets are $55, $45 and $25, and are free for students K-12 and college students with ID’s. For tickets and additional information, visit the Greenwich Choral Society’s website at www.gcs-ct.org or call 203-622-5136.
