Vote Mama is the first PAC in the country dedicated to increasing the political power of Democratic moms by disrupting the systems that hold women back through direct financial support, mentorship, and endorsements. The organization was founded in 2019 by Liuba Grechen Shirley, the first woman to ever successfully petition the FEC to use her campaign funds for childcare, after running for Congress and experiencing firsthand the obstacles that moms with school aged children face when running for office. Since its launch, Vote Mama has supported 500 Democratic moms running for office up and down the ballot across the country!

More moms in office mean more policies that uplift women and working families. Women legislators sponsor more bills, pass more bills, and send their districts more money. Moms in Congress write even more bills over the course of their term than other women do, and their legislation is focused on health care, childcare, gun safety, education, reproductive rights, and affordable housing for families. Yet women only make up 29% of state legislators nationwide and 27% of the U.S. Congress— only 5% of state legislators and 7% of Congress members are moms of children 18 and under.

Women know at a visceral level the challenges that families face, but too often do not have a seat at the decision-making table because women, especially moms of young children, face extraordinary challenges running for office. That is why Vote Mama is working to alleviate those barriers.
