Fairfield County’s Giving Day significantly surpassed last year’s totals by raising $1,246,964.09 from 15,311 unique gifts. Fairfield County family, friends, neighbors and co-workers gave where they live! Fairfield County’s Community Foundation was Giving Day’s driving force for the third year in a row.
As region’s biggest philanthropic event, Giving Day allowed the community to come together and make a difference. Over 400 nonprofits participated to raise much-needed funds and to increase awareness about the amazing work they do throughout the region. Last year, $1,066,091 was raised in just 24-hours for 386 local nonprofits, donated by 13,161 individuals.
“Fairfield County Giving Day provided an easy way for every member of the community to make an impact where they live,” said Bill Tommins, Southern Connecticut Market President, Bank of America. “The tremendous support provided by residents of Fairfield County will enable our nonprofits to continue the great work they already do throughout the area.”
The excitement of Giving Day began March 10th at midnight. Individuals went to FCGives.org and make a donation of $10 or more to the nonprofit or cause close to their heart. Fairfield County’s Community Foundation initiated Giving Day to empower the community at large and encourage local philanthropy across the many avenues of need including hunger relief, access to housing, educational opportunities for youth and adults, animal welfare, access to arts and culture and so many more.
“Fairfield County’s Community Foundation is honored and grateful to partner with community members, nonprofit organizations and businesses that are philanthropic, socially conscience champions,” states Juanita James, CEO and President, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. “With these partners and our community of generous donors, we were able to make a HUGE impact on Giving Day 2016 for the people and places served by our important nonprofit sector. Remember, together we thrive!”
