Brunch is one of the most wonderful reasons to go to a restaurant. It combines the best food from breakfast and lunch, and with classic cocktails like the Bloody Mary and Mimosa, it allows for a socially acceptable session of day drinking. Not all Sunday Brunches are created equal, though, and with more brunch options in Greenwich than you can count on two hands — it’s helpful to know what makes each brunch menu special. Here we break it down for you:
The Anytime Brunch — HOME at the J House
Formerly eleven14 Kitchen, HOME at the J House is the new eatery in town. While they don't specifically have a brunch menu, they do serve breakfast all day — so even in the afternoon, you can order up those scrambled eggs and call it brunch!
The Buffet Brunch — Hyatt Regency
Chances are you already know about the Hyatt Regency’s epic brunch buffet – after all, it was voted “Best Brunch” in Fairfield County by Connecticut Magazine and this indulgent buffet will not disappoint. The airy dining room at the Winfield restaurant sets an elegant tone but be warned that at $59 per person, this meal does not come cheap.
The Pub Brunch — The Ginger Man
If a grand hotel dining experience is not your thing, then a pub brunch is likely more your speed. And who is to say that you can’t trade a Mimosa for one of many selections of craft beers at this beer bar? The Ginger Man brunch menu goes beyond your basic pub fare with three takes on the Eggs Benedict – Traditional (with Canadian Bacon), Smoked Salmon (over potato pancake) or Crab Cake (with sautéed spinach).
The Breakfast Brunch — L’escale
If your brunch taste skews more to the breakfast side than lunch, then you’ll want to make a reservation at L’escale. The restaurant at the Delamar knows how to satisfy its hotel guests with a delicious breakfast after a lovely night’s stay. Even if you’re not a hotel guest, you’ll want to start your morning here over a fresh omelet, seasonal fruit with granola and yogurt, or a comforting basket of warm baked goods.
The Big Brunch — Harvest
Perhaps you prefer a big boy brunch – some eggs and baked goods are just not going to cut it for you. If you crave meat and/or multiple courses, then Harvest has got you covered. With loads of unique menu items, everyone at your table will find something to love. Choose from a wood grilled hanger steak and eggs, or indulge in peanut butter pancakes, plus plenty of lunch items like burgers, sandwiches and salads for those among us who are not fans of traditional brunch fare.
The Bargain Brunch — Morello's
You probably already love Morello’s for their delicious pasta but their brunch is their real hidden-treasure. It’s also a great deal. Reasonably priced brunch favorites, like Vanilla French toast with sambucca-pear marmalade and an omelet with Fontina cheese, ham, caramelized mushrooms, peppers and onions are each $14. A fair price no doubt but a real bargain when you consider that they are accompanied by your choice of bacon or sausage and best of all, a Mimosa or Bloody Mary (or if you’re feeling responsible, a freshly squeezed orange juice).
