baró New World Cantina

The owners of Mezon in Danbury (Connecticut Magazine's "Best New Restaurant Statewide"), introduce baró, a cantina redefined. Two generations of family experience have helped perfect this restaurant. “We’ve been in the restaurant business most of our lives so we know the Industry well. Our entire family consists of foodies; we love food, we love to go out to eat, so it only seemed natural that we open a restaurant. We opened Mezon about two years ago. It was a big hit so we decided to venture down to Fairfield and open another,” said owner Juan Reyes. This ‘spirited Latin flavor’ restaurant was going for a sleek modern contemporary décor. The food is meant to showcase what Latin America and the Caribbean can really do (emphasizing Latin American food is not necessarily Mexican food). Great attention has been placed on baró’s ceviche and anticucho with a bar designed to allow customers to watch the chefs preparing the foods.

Ingredients: ‘Everything is house-made, nothing is processed. We try to source locally as much as we can not only to keep everything fresh but to help out the community and the local growers,” continued Reyes. One section of baró’s menu is meant to hone in on Latin American street food. The menu features dishes like Pica Pollo – fried chicken, tostones and smoked paprika aioli and Chicharonnes – pork cracklings. Their house-made 100% organic corn tortillas (made fresh daily) emphasize this restaurant's Latin American theme.

Not offered in most restaurants: Corazon local beef heart, chicken liver, pork belly, sea urchin, octopus ajillo prawns, tartar and duck confit – each entrée is served with it's own specially-made robust sauces and sides. Also offered on the extensive menu are many varieties of each dish; frio ceviches and greens, anticuchos skewers, and Mesa family (meals found in a typical Latin home on Sunday night) as well as Masa Taco’s, a signature staple.

The full bar offers: Traditional Specialty cocktails–not to be missed. Their names alone create curiosity; the Southtown, the Redeemer, Flower of Nicaragua, Centro Madrid, Cock of the Rock and Speed of Delight – to name a few. Sherry, Sangria, Michelada, Cerveza, Port, Tequila, and Vino; Sparkling, Rose’, Reds and Whites – sold by the bottle or by the glass. Coffee and tea are also available. “Once you have our craft cocktails, they speak for themselves.”
