Creative Thinking: Part 3

A lot has happened with Amy’s studio project since our last post. After Amy and architect Neil Hauck finalized the plans for the addition, builder Shawn Mauro got to work. “I was intrigued by the overall design of this project,” says Mauro, who was familiar with the house from passing it on his way to and from his other projects in the area.“ It was a nice, classic-looking farmhouse with a little flair. I always liked it.” Though this project isn’t a typical one for Mauro, who usually works on larger additions and semi-custom homes, he liked the challenge it posed. “This addition was on the smaller side for me, but I was attracted to it because of complexity of the rooflines.” Framing the space wasn’t easy, but also his favorite part of the project. “None of the wall heights were the same, and there were four different roof pitches that had to be tied together dead center in the addition, which made it pretty complex,” says Mauro.  To see how he made it all work, check out our photo gallery of the building process from laying the foundation to now!
