Crowd Pleaser

Pure sport is uniting, distracting, and just plain fun—and with the Atlantic League’s Bluefish baseball team, it’s also close to home. Their stadium, the 5,300-seat Ballpark at Harbor Arena, is located just over the town border. This season marks the team’s fifteenth season of bringing to Fairfield County experienced players as well as up-and-coming talent in the baseball world. If you’re a diehard Yankee or Mets fan, you’ll eagerly trek into NYC to wave your foam hand. But if you just want a day out to enjoy America’s favorite sport, you can root for the home team. A day with the Bluefish is also an ideal introduction to the game. Kids delight in the sheer size of the stadium and the spectacle of players. Plus, there’s a bouncy house, T-shirt “cannons,” fan cheers, and stadium food, like ice cream and hot dogs. Tickets range from an unbelievable $8 (reserved seat) to $20 (Harbor Club seats). The Bluefish also do a lot to offer engaging theme nights—like “Bark in the Park” night, when fans can bring their dogs to the game (try doing that at Yankee Stadium!)—and summer baseball camps. All in all, watching a game here is an easy and fun summer outing. Mom and Dad, top the night off by pulling up Bull Durham on the DVR. Maybe you forgot just how good a classic can be?
