This year I’m giving myself a gift for Mother’s Day. As I approach the big 4-0, I want to celebrate the way I feel: strong, beautiful and proud of who I am. So I booked a boudoir session with acclaimed Westport photographer Jen Goldberg. Known for capturing the soul and spirit of families with her artistic eye, she’s expanding to include private portraits (privateportraits.com). I’m so ready for my moment!
What inspired your interest in boudoir?
“Maternity photography has always been an amazingly powerful part of my business. Pregnancy is a time when women love to capture their changing bodies. I asked myself, as a mother of two daughters, why do we stop at maternity photographs? Why not celebrate our bodies when we look and feel our best and act as role models for our children? Many of my contemporaries are also parents, who work out, eat well and pride themselves on their healthful lifestyles. Revel in that, because you’re never as young as you are today.”
What does boudoir mean to you?
“I call my artwork Private Portraits. It’s a celebration of a moment in time; an opportunity to focus solely on you. The stigma of boudoir is that it’s sexually suggestive, but that’s not always true. My images are empowering, beautiful fine art portraits created to be displayed in your home, as an album or gifted to someone special…a visual affirmation that you are strong, stunning, shy, wild and confident in your body.”
What can a client expect in a session?
“We capture different poses, lighting setups, background and clothing.”

3. GET YOUR HAIR DONE
Everyone feels better with a fresh cut, color and/or blowout. Maybe makeup, too, or just bring mascara and lip gloss.
