So Little Time, So Much to Do

As the leaves begin to fall and the days become crisper, finding new and fun activities can sometimes be a challenge. Sure, there’s sports and dance practice, but sometimes you just need to break-up your family’s weekly routine. Make sure to check out these can’t miss events that will add some spice to any routine.


Saturday Art Lab: Tints and Shade

When: Saturday October 18, 9 am-10:15 am for ages 6-10 and 10:30 am -12 pm for ages 9-12

Where: Westport Arts Center

Why you should attend: During this art lab, participants will be able to learn about the color wheel and they will have the opportunity to create a spooky landscape. “It’s a great way to spend a Saturday,” says Lindsay Heffernan, the education manager at the center.


Earthplace Festival

When: Sunday October 19, 11 am-5 pm (Rain date is Sunday October 26)

Where: Earthplace Westport

Why you should attend: This festival will allow families to engage with their natural surroundings in new and exciting ways. There are a plethora of activities like an obstacle trail, slinging apples from slingshots, a hay bale slide and a critter encounters.


CHT’s Ghost and Goblin Kids Run

When: Saturday October 25, 11am

Where: Sherwood Island State Park

Why you should attend: “Its not just mom and dad running a 5k, this really is a family event,” says Katherine O’Brien, co-chair of the CHT Preschool Board. Kids are able to get dressed up and participate in a quarter-mile dash or a 100-meter dash. Plus, every child gets a medal or trophy because everyone’s a winner at this fun run.


Art Adventure Workshop

When: Saturday October 25, 11 am-12:45 pm

Where: Westport Arts Center

Why you should attend: Give your kids the chance to explore the gallery. Plus, they will get a tour of the Edward Burtynsky: Nature Speaks exhibit.


Halloween Spectacular

When: Wednesday October 29, 3:30pm at YMCA and 4:30pm Town Green

Where: Westport YMCA and Westport Town Green

Why you should attend: Give your kids a chance to test out their Halloween costumes as they march up main street trick or treating. Not only will they get copious amounts of treats, but they will also get to show off their dance moves as spooktacular tunes are spun by DJ’s Music Mania.
