The Seventh Annual SportsNight awards dinner was attended by several Fairfield residents. Close to 500 people attended the event, held at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The event raised thousands of dollars for the Fairfield County Sports Commission and its Chelsea Cohen Fitness Academy. The six newest members of the FC Sports Hall of Fame were inducted, including former Fairfield University basketball standout Joe DeSantis. Sports persons of the year from fifteen county communities were also recognized, including Fairfield’s Connor Rog, a cross-country and distance runner from Fairfield Prep. Live and silent auctions were also part of the evening. Sports personalities attending included former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine, former New York Yankees Tommy John and Lee Mazzilli, and Sue Merz, who won a gold medal for the U.S. Women’s Olympic hockey team.
