Spring Preview

Even while winter lingers, there’s a whisper of spring in the air—and Fairfield County knows exactly where to find it first.

From early blooms to fresh greenery and outdoor markets, these are the spots where the season’s energy starts to shift. Whether you want to stroll, sip,or simply take it all in, these destinations are worth keeping on your radar.

Stamford: Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens

A perfect stop for green-thumbs and stroller walks alike. Stamford Arboretum bursts to life early, with budding trees and crocuses peeking up from the soil. Wander the paths, breathe in the fresh air, and notice the subtle shifts from gray winter to hopeful spring. Bonus: it’s quiet enough for a reflective morning or an energizing late-afternoon stroll.

Darien: Cherry Lawn Park

Cherry Lawn Park is all about early-season color. The daffodils and cherry trees are the first to signal warmer days, and the open fields make it easy to plan a picnic, toss a frisbe, or let the kids run around. Even a brief visit will leave you feeling a little lighter and ready for longer days ahead.

New Canaan: The Glass House

Architectural beauty meets nature’s bloom. The Glass House and its surrounding grounds are stunning as buds and early flowers emerge. Walk the carefully curated paths, enjoy views of flowering trees reflected in the ponds and let the combination of art, architecture and spring growth reset your senses.

Greenwich: Sam Bridge Nursery

A horticultural hotspot that signals spring’s arrival. Sam Bridge Nursery has rows of potted blooms, fragrant herbs and bright bedding plants that make it impossible not to start planning your garden. Even a quick visit to explore new plants or pick up a seasonal bouquet feels like a mini spring celebration.

Westport: Terrain

Terrain isn’t just a garden store—it’s an immersive spring experience. Early blooms, sculpted planters, and curated seasonal décor make it a destination for wandering, inspiration and snapping a few photos for your own home. From herbs to early flowers, Terrain gives visitors the feeling of spring arriving even before the calendar says it’s official.

Rowayton: Rowayton Farmers Market

Local flavors and seasonal goodies start showing up early in the year. At Rowayton Farmers Market, you’ll find fresh produce, artisan baked goods and early spring flowers. Grab a coffee, wander the stalls and let the sights and smells of new season produce set the tone for the weeks ahead.

Wilton: Merwin Meadows Park

A perfect spot for early hikes and birdwatching. As the ice melts and trees begin to bud, Merwin Meadows Park becomes a haven for walkers, joggers and nature lovers. The quiet trails and wide-open spaces give a fresh perspective, helping you shake off winter stiffness and welcome longer daylight.

Fairfield: Penfield Beach

Even before sand season officially begins, Penfield Beach shows hints of spring. Walk along the shoreline, watch early migratory birds and enjoy the crisp, fresh air. There’s a calm energy here that only comes from the first mild days of the year—ideal for a reflective stroll or a little family time outdoors.
