Oh how they pile up. The land of the misfit electronics has filled our drawers, attic corners and basement shelves. We stash it away to make room for each bigger, better, faster, cooler, sleeker techno gadget. Let's hope you haven't tossed your old stuff in the trash because those electronics are pure poison when they breakdown in a landfill.
Donate
Freecycle is a nonprofit movement of people who are giving and or getting stuff for free in their own towns.
ReUseIt Network, like Freecycle, is an on-line forum that helps connect you to other people in the community who want to keep perfectly good items out of our landfills. It will "help get things from people who have them, but don't want them, to people who want them, but don't have them."
Charities Goodwill Industries or Salvation Army.
Computer Reuse, visit the National Cristina Foundation— they will give your "old" computer (along with computer training) to people with disabilities, students at risk, and economically disadvantaged persons so that they may "lead more independent and productive lives".
Sell your Old Electronics
YouRenew.com will sell your old electronics for you! Or if they are not acceptable for resale they will recycle them for you.
Recycle
If you are going to recycle your electronics check out this list of our local disposal/recycling centers. Be sure to visit their websites for specific town by town guidelines. All towns are required to accept televisions, monitors, computers and printers.
