Finally, Nike just did it. Seems like we were waiting forever for its Main Street store to open. After all, we have no shortage of impressive runners here.
Happily, this store is all about the perfect run, with help from a little technology. Nike+ combines the shoe, an iPod sensor ($19) and iPod Touch or iPhone. As you run, your iPod or iPhone will record your time, distance, pace and calories burned—all of which sync to nikeplus.com for you to analyze later. It keeps stats and lets you connect with other runners. You can even challenge other Nike+ runners to a race, which you do on your own time. When you log in, the results are posted. Win and you can claim the title Route Boss.
At Nike+ you can also check out a “heat” map, which shows popular running areas near you. Plus, record your favorite courses. Another plus, review all your runs and stats. Yet another plus, map your own route. The only minus: No more excuses. 69 Main St., Westport, 203-226-2236; nike.com.
Try It: Nike dominates globally. How about locally? We asked the store athletes to suggest a route.
Here’s a winner:
DOWN Main St. RIGHT on Post Road and follow.
LEFT on Sylvan Road. LEFT on Riverside (Route 33).
RIGHT on Kings Highway North and another right to stay on Kings Highway.
RIGHT on Main Street and right toward Avery and the river. 4.25 miles.
