Break Out Of Your Exercise Rut

A rigid exercise schedule can be tough to maintain, especially in the summer when it’s far more enticing to relax on the beach instead of working out. Look no further than these 5 suggestions to switch up your summer sweat sessions– your belated bikini body awaits!

  1. Outdoor hike – ‘Tis the season to embrace all the woodlands Connecticut has to offer and go for a scenic hike. Devil’s Den in Weston, Lake Mohegan in Fairfield, Saugatuck Falls Natural Area in Redding– the trail options are endless! The surrounding nature found on all these trails provide a scenic distraction to a pumping heart and burning quads.

  2. Winslow Park – This hidden gem right off the post road is a go-to spot for dog walkers but it doubles as an outdoor gym as well. Start by running throughout the park for a warm-up then try either of these park bench workouts from SHAPE or Fitness. There are plenty of benches to choose from so get to it. Feeling particularly energized? Run across the street to Compo Shopping center and take a Soulcycle class before or after.

  3. Sasco Beach run – Running at compo beach is the avocado toast of Instagram– in other words its way too mainstream. Be a trendsetting trailblazer and jog at Sasco beach in Southport instead. This area is primarily flat so it’s conducive to all levels plus all the exquisite houses make for distracting eye candy.

  4. Stand up paddle boarding – The key to bikini-worthy abs is a strong core and stand-up paddle boarding is an effective yet fun way to achieve just that. As a low impact and relaxing workout it is similar to yoga in its wide-ranging benefits. Downunder Surf Shop, conveniently located on the Saugatuck River, has everything an aspiring SUP-er needs to succeed. 5. Tennis at Longshore Club Park – Getting toned and tan at the same time? Yes please! Playing tennis with or against a friend is the perfect way to combine competition and calorie-burning. Longshore has nine courts and is an affordable option for those who don’t belong to a country club. The only challenge is picking a cute white outfit!
