Cool Scribbles

Westport mom Andrea Bergstein created Scribblitt.com, a free website where kids ages seven through twelve can create, write, illustrate and publish their own books. Help comes from story starters, writing tools, a pick-and-click illustration tool, tips and interviews from celebrity authors (such as Megan McDonald of the popular Judy Moody series), an online library to share stories, writing contests, word games, and more.

“The only fee involved is if the child/parent wishes to order a professionally printed copy of the child’s book, comic or stationery,” says Andrea, mom to two girls: one a writer, the other an illustrator. “I’m sure you can appreciate the amount of paper that collects all over my house from these two girls,” she notes. Scribblitt will soon be developing comics as well as fundraising opportunities for area schools.
