An inventor at heart, Marci Klein has had many ideas over the years. One of them was realized when Klein launched Modify Furniture this past December. The venture—a line of stylish and functional custom pieces—was a natural fit for her. “I’ve always had a passion for making, thinking and problem-solving,” she says. “Structurally, I wanted to create something that was modular and versatile. Because the design is so simple, this furniture can change based on a person’s needs.”
THE COLLECTION
The line—made in the company’s Bridgeport studio—is composed of aluminum frames from 30 percent recycled content, rapidly renewable bamboo and powder-coated colored steel panels. “We use high-quality materials that are beautiful and eco-responsible,” says Klein. Modify is anchored by its Polychrome Series, a collection that features twelve core pieces, including a coffee table, desk and credenza. Items are available in multiple sizes and can be outfitted with drop-in accessories that offer places to stash phones, pens and more. Panels are available in eleven colors, although customers can feature their own photos and artwork on them, too. The Modify After Dark Series features the same furniture as Polychrome, but it also showcases the work of various artists.
INTERACTIVE SHOPPING
Ordering is simple thanks to an online customization tool. Select the item you want and “build” it by choosing the frame color, bamboo shade, panel colors and other components. “You can see the piece as you make it,” says Klein. “It’s a fun, interactive user experience.” If you want to check out the Modify line in person, head to the showroom at the Fairfield Co. Antique & Design Center at 19 Willard Road, off Route 1 in Norwalk. modifyfurniture.com
