Starting Wednesday, November 5, The Granola Bar, located at Playhouse Square in Westport, will extend their hours until 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays to offer healthy, family-friendly dinners.  The entire menu will be available all day long – whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner – for the same price for dine-in or take-out.

“We’re excited to offer additional healthy and flavorful twists on traditional dishes and to provide convenient dinner options for families,” said Julie Levitt, who co-owns The Granola Bar with Dana Noorily (both Westport)

The Granola Bar will launch their new seasonal menu, following their same mission of using fresh, seasonal ingredients from local farms.  New dishes include The Post Road (turkey apple brie grilled cheese with homemade apple butter), the Chicken Paillard salad, and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, in addition to their popular menu mainstays like the Cruban (corned beef, turkey, swiss and pickles on toasted rye), the Omega (pistachio-crusted salmon, strawberries, sunflower seeds and goat cheese on a bed of spinach), and the Shrek smoothie (spinach, kale, banana, apple, almond butter and almond milk).

The new menu will also feature new customizable, “build-your-own” dishes such as a quinoa bowl, salad bowl and egg scramble, as well as a “wrap or not-to-wrap” option for salads.  There will also be a new weekly soup to the menu, using fresh, local ingredients.

For adventurous and picky kids alike, there will be healthy alternatives to the favorite standbys, like grilled cheese and baked chicken fingers. The Granola Bar’s chicken fingers and sweet potato chips are baked instead of fried. (In fact, The Granola Bar doesn’t have a fryer or stove top, so there are no added oils or butter involved.)

The Granola Bar’s head chef, Jes Bengtson, creates healthy spins on popular dishes for their daily menu, as well as their menus for catering, private parties and special events.

“The freshness and simplicity of our food make people happy,” said Bengtson. “We adapt simple meals to make them healthy using pure ingredients and techniques, whether it be replacing quinoa for breadcrumbs or baking instead of frying. We’re making it in our own healthy way.”
