EDITOR’S NOTE: ALL THE BRIGHT MOVES

It’s such a happy color, and it brings the outside in.…”

That’s how designer Bobbi Stuart—known as “The Color Lady”—describes her use of green in this issue’s cover story. You see it right away: in climbing foliage on the dining room walls, painted on chairs, upholstered in bold velvet on the sofa. And it doesn’t stop there.

A den drenched in Benjamin Moore’s Bellbottom Blues lacquer takes its cue from a painting Bobbi found at Trovare Home on East Putnam. It’s a deeper tone in an otherwise bright palette—and one of the favorite rooms in the house, for both Bobbi and homeowner Lynn Markley.

Bobbi and Lynn have known each other for years, and that friendship is a big part of why the design works. There’s a level of trust that makes decisions easier, and perhaps a little more adventurous. Bobbi also made a point of bringing Lynn along on her scouting trips, part inspiration, part education and part fun.

Lynn loves to cook, to host, to have people over, and the space reflects that: her “ultimate happy place,” built for exactly that kind of living. It’s bright, welcoming and designed to be used. Bobbi’s family is part of it, too—her grandchildren call Markley “Auntie Lynn,” which says a lot about how open her door usually is.

Maybe it was the dog on our cover that caught your eye? Fair. You’ll meet a few more in our Adopt-A-Dog pages; enough to make a case for bringing one home, or at least circling the next adoption event on your calendar this September.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of green outside (finally)—so open your own doors and let those summer colors in.
