Stanford University students Mariko Jessica McDonagh and John Allen Meier met their freshmen year when both were living in Roble Hall. They were close friends for two years before they began dating. John proposed in a park at the foot of Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. Guests from around the world gathered at the Stanford University Memorial Church, where the Reverend C. George Fitzgerald officiated at the ceremony. A reception followed at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
The bride, daughter of Miyuki and Michael McDonagh of Old Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich High School and received her undergraduate degree in international relations from Stanford University. She is a project manager with Southern California Edison in Los Angeles, California.
The groom, son of Katherine Meier of Chicasha, Oklahoma, and Robert Meier of Oklahoma City, graduated from Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics and Stanford University. He received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He is a Ph.D candidate at the California Institute of Technology and expects to graduate in June.
