Encouraged by their respective friends that their soul mate was out there, Mary Petro and James Noonan decided to join the Internet age and created profiles on Match.com. They messaged back and forth in an attempt to arrange a first date but their busy schedules got in the way. Until one day James suggested a lunch date a month away and Mary responded “meet you at Starbucks in an hour.” The couple instantly hit it off and made plans to meet again. Fast forward two years later, James popped the question and Mary gladly said yes.
Rev. Peter Walsh officiated the ceremony held at St. Mark’s Church in New Canaan. The reception followed at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club where the bride, joined by her best friends, Elizabeth de Trejo and Samia Bahu Weist, serenaded James with the song “I Could Have Danced All Night.”
The bride, the daughter of Dolores and the late Francis Petro of Chicago, is not only a realtor for Coldwell Banker in Westport but is also a professional opera singer. Mary performs regularly as a soprano soloist at St. Mark’s Church in New Canaan and as a member in the Extra Chorus at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She acquired her bachelor’s in vocal performance from Depaul University and her master’s in operatic performance from Yale University.
The groom is the son of Maryann and James Noonan of East Quogue, New York. He attended Stonehill College and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army reserves and was eventually promoted to Captain upon his retirement. He then earned his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law. James is a partner at Ryan Ryan Deluca LLP in Stamford.
The couple honeymooned in Hawaii before returning home to Norwalk.
