Good news for Greenwich modernists: The German kitchen-cabinet manufacturer, LEICHT, has just opened its newest showroom. The space exudes a cool contemporary vibe and features the line’s full range of custom offerings. There are nine finishes to choose from, including lacquers, laminates, concrete, wood veneers, acrylics and glass, as well as a variety of sleek extras (self-closing doors and drawers, low-voltage under-cabinet LED lighting, clever corner solutions and panels that hide every appliance imaginable).
For those who are afraid to go completely modern, there is a transitional line that features Shaker-style hardware and finishes that have a slightly more traditional edge. “The timing for Greenwich is perfect,” says Ohad Berebi, who opened the first of his twelve Leicht showrooms in 2010, along with his business partner, Mayan Metzler. “When we opened in Westchester in 2012, the big question was, ‘Would people like more contemporary and modern kitchens?’ The answer was yes. The modern kitchen is here.”
Customers can work with their own decorator or one of the showroom’s in-house designers—or even Berebi himself, who is involved with every aspect of the business. “I go from greeting customers at the door to drinking a glass of wine with them in their finished kitchens,” he says.
Leicht also offers the Nobilia line of kitchen cabinets, which is available at about half the price. The only difference, says Berebi, is “it’s not full custom and has fewer finish options. It’s a very economical option.” 11 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich; 203-340-9933; leichtgreenwich.com

The Digital Age
“People like bells and whistles. Today’s customers come in and want all the gadgets. Kitchens should be smart and minimal. They want docking stations for all their electronics, and fridges that take interior pictures so they can monitor food supplies 24-7.”
Go-to Color Combo
“Gray wood-grain veneers for the tall cabinets and the island. For the rest, a solid color—usually white lacquer.”
Most Unique Request
“We did a pool house kitchen where the cabinets were done in yellow and green and orange high-gloss lacquer.”
