The Center for HOPE will welcome award-winning journalist, filmmaker and health advocate Perri Peltz as she takes to the podium as the speaker for the 2013 Annual Luncheon on Monday, May 20. The event will be at 11 a.m. at Woodway Country Club in Darien.
Peltz is known best for her work as a news journalist with WNBC-TV in New York and NBC News focusing on issues relating to poverty and health. She also served as a contributor on NBC’s “Dateline” and a correspondent on ABC’s “20/20," where she won numerous awards for her reporting on medical misdiagnoses. Peltz was also the anchor of CNN’s award-winning show, “CNN.com”.
In 2011, Peltz went behind the camera and directed the acclaimed documentary “The Education of Dee Dee Ricks." The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival to rave reviews and aired worldwide on HBO in October 2011. Focusing on the disparities in the U.S. healthcare system, “The Education of Dee Dee Ricks” tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two women from very different backgrounds and the obstacles they face while simultaneously battling breast cancer.
In addition to working on a forthcoming documentary, Peltz hosts “Dr. Radio Presents” – a one-hour weekly program on public health issues that airs on Sirius-XM Radio.
The 2013 Center for HOPE Luncheon is co-chaired by Jan Dilenscheider of Darien and Greenwich residents Pam Caffray and Susan Yonce. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids, Family Centers’ programs offering counseling and support to residents of lower Fairfield County coping with a loss, a critical illness or life-altering circumstance.
