Pet Project

Need a new and pretty shoe for those tired dogs? We like the Amore dei Cani line of classic loafers with a whimsical twist.

They can be customized with a silver or gold medallion engraved with a likeness of your pet pooch. The company is the brainchild of New Canaan’s Tonina Abplanalp and her sister Karen Rossitch of Charlotte, North Carolina, where the girls grew up. “We started the company four years ago and we’re having a ball,” says Abplanalp. “Life should be fun.”

In addition to loafers, the Amore dei Cani collection includes totes, sandals and small accessories, and one percent of the proceeds are donated to the Humane Fund of the American Kennel Club, which promotes responsible pet ownership. Go to amoredeicani.com to see the spring collection, but get your orders in fast, particularly if you’re a dachshund lover, as those medallions are the company’s hottest sellers.
