On Friday, April 20 at 7:00PM, The Fairfield Theatre Company will host Sam Sparro’s Funky Electro-Pop. Sparro’s self-titled “electro-funk” album debuted at number one on the U.S. iTunes dance charts, selling 260,000 copies. His single, “Black and Gold,” climbed to number two on the U.K. charts, which helped promote it to number five upon U.S. release.
Although Sparro grew up singing gospel and his sound is derived mainly from contemporary rhythm and blues, his music has a futuristic edge. Billboard Magazine declared, “He can do it all.” Hailing from Australia, Los Angeles, and England, Sparro immersed himself into the international music scene and soon was signed to Island Records in the U.K. Early U.S. success includes a placement on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Hot List.”
