Sleep Easy

I typically recommend implementing a sleep routine for naps and bedtime,” says Ingrid Prueher, area mom and a certified child sleep consultant known as the Baby Sleep Whisperer. “An example would be, pull the shades down, dim lights, feed, burp, change diaper, story book, white noise, hugs and kisses and then lights out. It's also important to declare wake up when the child wakes by pulling up the shades, turning off the white noise and saying, ‘Good morning,’ in a jolly manner. These suggestions help the child learn the difference between awake and sleep time.”

Prueher was a research analyst in New York City; then her baby Maximo had trouble sleeping. She turned to Deborah Pedrick, cofounder and president of the Family Sleep Institute, which certifies consultants. Prueher became one and now stars in Baby Sleep 911 on Parents.com.

“They had started waking frequently during the night and their daytime sleep was a disaster,” says Melissa, a Westport mom of twins. “During our introductory call, Ingrid gave us some quick tips that helped us right off the bat, including how to sync up their schedules and reducing the number of times we were going into their room in the middle of the night.” Prueher continued to work with the family, and Melissa adds that once the babies were sleeping better, they began eating better and were happier in general. “That makes us happier too!”

A sleep consultant, Prueher is also a lactation counselor, newborn soothing/calming expert and a holistic health coach. She offers consultations virtually, in-person at a client’s home and at her office in Westport.
