Westporters, your locks-loving ways (those hours at the local salons) have not gone unnoticed by little eyes looking up to you. Yes, your dog has been watching and wants pampering, too. Welcome Snip Doggy Dog to Westport (also Fairfield and Old Greenwich)—a grooming salon for pets. According to Master Groomer Keith Densmore, the owners are Englishmen who have lived in Connecticut for over ten years—and own dogs. “They designed a new concept to meet their tastes,” he says.
At the Sconset Square location, choose from a number of services, headlined with the all-important bath. Snip Doggy Dog uses all-natural and specialized shampoo and conditioner, but, of course, you can bring in your own if you prefer. Afterward, your dog will enjoy a cool-air blow out. If Fido doesn’t like the dryer though, he can lay down in a special crate where cool air circulates around him, nice and easy. He is monitored throughout to make sure the experience is pleasant.
Other services include nail trimming, ear cleaning and tick and flea check (as if!). Additional options—nonanesthesia teeth scaling, hair coloring, nail polish, massage services for older dogs, dog walking, daycare and pet sitting—are being rolled out. The work is done in a floor-to-ceiling glass workstation within the 1,000-square-foot salon, so you can see the grooming process and how your dog is handling the attention.
“We aim to please our clientele, and, most important, we want to make our environment a place where dogs and cats love to come,” says Densmore, who is in demand for grooming and training others. “We want them to feel like their pet parents feel when they are spending a day at the spa.”
