Tough Choices

Rebar

8 Post Rd, 203.557.0899

Westport’s latest gym uses an engineered personal training workout routine perfectly tailored to your body for a complete fitness and lifestyle overhaul. Danny and Abby Clark, the husband-and-wife co-owners (and award-winning competitive athletes) create functional, balanced strength programs with sustainable nutrition and cardio to boost endurance and stamina. No one-size-fits-all approach to fitness here. Only real results backed by science.

The Gym

226 Old Post Rd, 203.259.0882

The co-owners of CLAY Health Club+Spa (a sleek and luxe integrated wellness center with private and group training) have an equally impressive brand: The Gym. With two other locations, The Gym recently took over the thirty-five-year-old Southport Athletic Club. Expect upgrades in programs, services, facility design and equipment, including new cardio and weights, ballet barres and healthy café.

Wesport/Weston Family Y

14 Allen Raymond Ln, 203.226.8981

Looking for a new workout? Just add water. Dive into the ten-lane swimming pool at the sprawling new Mahackeno campus of the Westport Y.  Sure, you can settle into a comfortable back-and-forth rhythm as you glide through the water during a lap swim. Or you can shake things up with the Y’s Aqua Fitness class. Hit the shallow end for this non-swimming workout that challenges you to stand in the pool and weight train, run, paddle and more, using water as resistance to sculpt those muscles.

Intensity

490 Westport Ave., Norwalk, 203.853.7727

Up for a challenge? Personal trainers Jenser Gomes and Jake Parton run a body-shredding bootcamp-style class called Rip It. If you’ve been auto-piloting through the same fitness routine forever, your progress has stopped dead in its tracks. Which is why this class uses muscle confusion—varied movements to keep your body guessing—combined with bursts of cardio for a workout that lives up to the name “Intensity.”

Joyride

1200 Post Rd. E, 203.349.5454

Now with more than twenty off-the-bike classes to work on strength, tone and flexibility, JoyCircuit is a high-intensity, cross-training class with multiplanar functional moves, sculpting and core work. JoyRide also introduces the Interval + Endurance Ride, which uses high intensity interval training to boost strength, stamina, metabolism and
fat busting.
