The intimate sanctuary at 31 Saint Roch Avenue, where every appointment is the only appointment that matters.
Nineteen years ago, when hairstylist Becker Chicaiza arrived in Greenwich, the vocabulary around color looked very different. Chicaiza had trained in techniques that were still relatively unknown in American salons, including the French balayage method he brought back from Paris. The approach favored subtlety over stripes—color painted by hand to mimic the way sunlight naturally moves through hair.

Over time, Chicaiza developed his own approach to cutting and coloring, which he calls “Twist & Texture.” The method emphasizes movement and natural dimension, combining precise cuts with freehand color placement designed to grow out seamlessly.
His work gradually attracted a devoted following. Clients now travel from across the country for an appointment in Chicaiza’s single chair, a rarity in an industry built around teams of stylists. The appointment, starting at $450, has become one of the most sought-after salon bookings in Connecticut.

Among the names who have visited the chair over the years are actors Sarah Paulson, Jennifer Aniston, Hayden Panettiere and Diane Lane, as well as fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. On social media, videos of his technique have amassed more than a billion views, drawing a global audience curious about the process behind the results.
Chicaiza often describes his inspiration as coming from the natural world, the movement of clouds, the rhythm of waves, ideas he translates into how hair should fall and move. The goal, he says, is hair that looks as though it grew that way.

Unlike most salons, his remains intentionally small. Chicaiza works alone, handling every cut, color, and finish himself. For his regular clientele—many of whom refer to themselves as “Becker Babes,” that direct connection is part of the draw.
Earlier this year, Chicaiza made another significant move: he purchased the building that has long housed his studio. The property at 31 Saint Roch Avenue now contains the salon on the first floor and the headquarters for his haircare brand, Be Chic, upstairs. The line focuses on clean formulations and environmentally conscious ingredients, extending the philosophy he brings to his work behind the chair.

Nearly two decades after arriving in Greenwich, Chicaiza has built something unusual in the salon world: a single-artist studio with an international audience and a waitlist that continues to grow.
