Think Big

Who doesn’t need a little inspiration? Mother Nature has done her part—the delightful days of May and June are here to help create a pleasant setting for day-dreaming or, for you more driven types, goal setting. The rest is up to you. This May/June issue offers lots of inspiration for you to think big about what you want and what you need—forget about just settle for what is. We want you to have something even better.

To begin, we walk you through a glorious private garden designed in 1939—but with a twist. It was recently updated with a personal sense of peace that the homeowner had envisioned for the space. Now, it’s her perfect escape. The contemporary design embraces a modern mix of symmetry and fluidity. Like any art, landscaping is personal expression and, thus, has the power to surprise and delight anyone who experiences it.

We also discovered endless dreams and goals at the annual June Benefit Horse Show, which is held at the ninety-year-old Fairfield County Hunt Club. The event attracts world-class athletes as well as first-time competitors—all pursuing an athletic accomplishment and hoping for a trophy or ribbon. If that weren’t inspirational enough, the show benefits the EQUUS Foundation, dedicated to the care and understanding of horses.

Keep going, because inside you’ll also find ten amazing trips to escape the everyday. These aren’t average getaways! These are destinations, each chosen to satisfy real cravings: gourmet cuisine, relaxing views, enriching arts and culture, a taste of adventure, and even a dance-the-night-away party. We have irresistible ideas, plus insights from Fairfielders who have been. (Wherever you end up going, send me a postcard!)

Need more? Take a look at the uplifting stories in our Town Talk pages: the Fairfield Theatre Company added another venue; the revamped Bensonians are singing their hearts out; SHU and WSHU are embracing big changes; and the young ballet dancer Chase Finlay was recently promoted to principal dancer at the New York Ballet. Amazing!

You’ll find another boost in our coverage of social events and weddings. The Rose of Hope Luncheon is coming up in June—don’t miss it! And if wedding bells are in your future, turn to fab finds to express your style. It’s time to honor your boldest thoughts of what can be. Truly grand possibilities deserve to be encouraged. Get living!
