Finding just the right gift for the mom in your life may take a little sleuthing, but two one-stop shopping tips may provide you with solutions for a perfect expression of your appreciation.
A Treasure Hunt
This weekend, more than fifty dealers of fine antiques gather at the Park Avenue Armory to display their wares for The Spring Show NYC. With furniture, jewelry, fine and decorative arts of every vintage, from America, England, continental Europe and Asia, the booths in the grand hall have a little something for everyone, and some great gifts for Mother.
The show has no shortage of choices for discerning collectors of glamorous baubles. Two of my favorites twinkle in the cases of Kentshire gallery, a Madison Avenue purveyor of pieces that range from sparkling to spectacular. Here’s an oval gold locket in the Etruscan style, for a young mom just starting her jewelry collection—she can substitute a tiny image of her family for the bearded gent:

For the mother who has everything, there’s no substitute for vintage Cartier, and this diamond watch pendant on a diamond studded chain takes the prize for sheer eye-popping splendor:

The show runs from today through Sunday, May 3 through the 6th; Park Avenue armory is located at 67th Street in Manhattan.
Floral Poetry
Nothing says Mother’s Day like a beautiful bouquet or arrangement, and this year a venerable Boston florist, Winston Flowers, takes its place on the Avenue to work its magic for lucky Moms throughout the metro area;
The Greenwich Avenue location is the first store outside of Massachusetts, where six shops cater to a sterling roster of private and corporate clients. The company is now owned by the third generation of Winstons; grandfather Maynard started the business with a pushcart on fashionable Newbury Street, establishing a reputation for exquisite blooms in profuse and artful arrangements.

Store manager Emily Pinon, whose own well-earned reputation in the world of floral arts led the Winston family to choose her expertise to lead the new venture, recalls the company decision to land in Greenwich, where the store opened just a few weeks ago.
“We decided on Greenwich since we’ve been servicing the state for years. Four times a week, we pick up our direct shipments of flowers from JFK and drive them to Boston, so Greenwich was a perfect spot off I-95 for us. We love Greenwich!”
Adds Pinon, “For Mother’s Day we are finding that our clients are planning in advance and ordering beautiful signature flower arrangements with fragrant garden roses, peonies and seasonal herbs such as lavender and mint. Another popular gift item is flower of the month, for one year the recipient will receive a beautiful Winston Flowers arrangement at the beginning of each month for a year.”
Apart from these ideas for colorful and fragrant gifts for the 13th, the shop offers a wide range of services, from weekly flowers in your home, custom events, larger exterior container plantings, and daily deliveries throughout Fairfield county, Westchester county and New York City.
