Merice Zeale & William Ostruzka

Captain’s Island has always been a Greenwich favorite, but for Merice McKenzie Zeale and William Joseph Ostruzka the island takes on a whole other meaning. The couple originally met there at a party thrown by a mutual friend. Five years later, when it came to proposal locations, Will, as the groom is known, knew it was the perfect place. He invited Merice out on his boat, slowed to a stop off Captain’s Island, and asked her to marry him. After a resounding yes, the couples’ friends drove their boats out from behind the bend where they had been hiding to congratulate the couple. The Reverend Leonard Ripley officiated at the ceremony held on the Great Lawn at the Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island in South Carolina. After vows were exchanged, a group of gospel singers broke into “Hallelujah” and led the wedding party to the scheduled cocktail hour in parade fashion.

The bride, daughter of Donna Gaudioso-Zeale and Peter Zeale, M.D., of Greenwich, graduated from the Gunnery and the University of Connecticut. She works as the assistant audience coordinator for the Jerry Springer Show.

The groom, son of Judi and Ted Ostruzka of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich High School and the University of Connecticut. He is a financial advisor in Stamford.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Hawaii before returning home to Stamford.
