Meal on Wheels

Food trucks have been a staple in cities like New York and LA for a while now but in the past few years, Fairfield County has gotten on board. You can find something to satisfy your craving, whatever it may be, if you know the right place to look. Facebook and twitter can help you locate the daily destination of these rolling restaurants. The Beer Garden at Harbor Point in Stamford, with seating for over 300 hundred and craft beer to boot, plays host to a number of these trucks in the evening of warmer months and most are also available in your own back yard, for hire, or at your next event.

Melt Mobile

Serving up gourmet takes on the humble grilled cheese since 2012, Melt Mobile serves sandwiches from 11:30 until 2 most days in changing locations from the Greenwich Library to various Stamford locations.

Lobstercraft

This Norwalk-based seafood truck is known for their creative lobster roll variations, including an “LBLT” (that’s a BLT topped with lobster), paired with spicy coleslaw and handmade chips in addition to other lobster favorites from bisque to lobster mac and cheese. They are open for lunch most days, everywhere from Greenwich to Westport, some recent stops include the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk and Sterling Farms Golf Course in Stamford.

Vanchetta Rolling Rotisserie

This truck, complete with chalkboard menu, serves classic porchetta and rotisserie chicken in addition to other Italian favorites in various locations around Stamford, including the Beer Garden.

Skinny Pines Pizza Truck

Their wood-fired pizza truck uses local, seasonal ingredients sourced from farmers in New York and Connecticut to bring artisan pizza to Fairfield County residents year round.  And, lest you wonder about their commitment to sustainability, their cutlery is biodegradable and their pizza boxes are made from 100% recycled content. Look for their truck at the farmer’s markets in Westport and New Canaan, among other locations.

Bodega Food TruckBodega Food Truck

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, the owners of Bodega in Fairfield and Darien have launched their own distinctive big green food truck, another way to enjoy the Mexican-inspired fare they’ve been serving up in their Fairfield location since 2011 and Darien since 2012.

The Local Meatball

With several rolling options (a cart, a Smart Car and a truck) this upstart can cater to any number of guests. The meatballs themselves are available “dressed,” meaning with bread, or “naked.” They mostly service Fairfield but stay-tuned to their postings to see where they’ll pop up next.

Maddy’s Food Truck

Having recently celebrated their first anniversary, it’s safe to say that the local food scene is ready for Haitian-spiced Caribbean and American food including jerk chicken tenders and crispy fried conch. You can find them serving lunch in Stamford most days (except Monday) and evenings at the Beer Garden.
