Abigail Rhodes Woodhead and Edward Fantus Adler

Sometimes going on a blind date can be the brightest decision one can make. This was certainly true for Abigail Woodhead and Ted Adler. The mastermind behind this perfect pair was Walter Denino, a medical-school classmate of Abigail’s. For three years the couple carried on a long-distance relationship between Boston and Burlington until Ted asked Abigail to be his wife. On a less than picture-perfect Saturday in Vermont just before Christmas, Ted insisted on taking a walk through Shelburne Farms. Abigail was not enthusiastic given the drab sky and bitter cold, but midway through the walk she understood Ted’s insistence, when he proposed at the top of Lone Tree Hill, overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack mountains. Shelburne Farms, a working farm, is where they had gone cross-country skiing on one of their first dates.

The rehearsal dinner took place in a giant raspberry patch at the bride’s childhood home on a perfect New England summer evening. The weather the next day was a different story. Just as the couple commenced their vows officiated by Reverend Daniel Jantos, a giant thunderclap rang through the chapel, signaling the start of a torrential rainstorm. The bride, groom, minister and guests could not help but laugh. The reception was held at the Blue Horse Inn, the bride’s grandmother’s former home and also the site of the wedding reception for the bride’s mother and sister. When toasting the couple, Abigail’s mother, Sarah Woodhead, told everyone that the clap of thunder was clearly Abigail’s late grandmother, Eleanor, celebrating the occasion.

The bride, daughter of Ken and Sarah Woodhead of Pomfret, Vermont, graduated from the Woodstock High School, Drew University and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Abigail is a third-year pediatric resident at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The groom, son of Richard and Anne Adler of Greenwich, graduated from Brunswick School and Middlebury College. Ted is the founder and president of Union Street Media in Burlington, Vermont.

Before returning home to Boston and Burlington, the Adlers honeymooned on Capri, where they did not see a single cloud.
