While living and working in Manhattan, Candace Fisch and Russell “Rusty” Hewit met through Match.com. After weeks of daily phone conversations, they decided to get together at the Jack Russell Pub and they never looked back.
Candace and Rusty were surprised that their paths hadn’t crossed before, having discovered that they both played lacrosse at private New Jersey high schools and in college, and that they had mutual friends from both New Jersey and Connecticut. A year and a half after that first date, the two planned a romantic weekend getaway to the Inn at Shelburne Farms in Vermont. As soon as they arrived, Rusty proposed in the rain on the shore of Lake Champlain.
The Reverend Ian Jeremiah, Parochial Vicar, officiated at the ceremony at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. A reception followed at the Woodway Country Club. The bride’s second-grade students wrote wedding advice booklets for the new husband and wife, which were displayed for the guests to enjoy.
The bride is the daughter of Gayle and Joseph Fisch Jr. of New Canaan. She graduated from the Lawrenceville School and Gettysburg College, with a BA in studio art. Candace received her MAT in elementary education from Manhattanville College and is a second-grade teacher at the Marymount School in New York City.
The groom is the son of Nan and Russell L. Hewit of New Vernon, New Jersey. He graduated from the Delbarton School and Washington and Lee University, with a degree in business administration. Rusty is a vice president at Knight Capital Group and works as a trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
The newlyweds, who are now based in Manhattan, enjoyed their honeymoon in Paris and Portugal.
