Cara Elizabeth Kidd and Christopher Jay Gessner, known as Chris, were introduced by a mutual friend, Beth Holcombe, while both were living and working in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Five years later, the couple moved to Guangzhou, China, to teach. As they were walking in Guangzhou on New Year’s Day 2011, the two decided to get married with the blessing of Cara’s parents, and celebrated their decision with dinner at their favorite Brazilian restaurant. Justice of the Peace John Collins officiated at the ceremony in the backyard of the Kidd family home in Chatham, Massachusetts, and a reception followed.
The bride, daughter of William and Carla Kidd of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich Country Day School, Greenwich High School and the Rhode Island School of Design. She received her master’s degree in elementary and special education from Manhattanville College. Cara is a fourth grade teacher at the Utahloy International School in Guangzhou.
The groom, son of Dr. William and Judy Gessner of Hurley, New York, graduated from Saint Anselm College. He teaches English as a Second Language at the Utahloy International School in Guangzhou.
