The United States National Rowing Team provided extensive training to scull and sweep. It also served as the perfect place for the introduction of Dana Lauren Peirce and Jonathan Prescott Watling, known as Jon, in 2001. Nine years later, Jon struggled to find the perfect engagement ring for Dana. He had one ring in mind, but he wasn’t confident that she would love it as much as he did, so he asked her to help pick it out. After looking at hundreds of rings, Dana picked out the one that Jon had initially chosen! Jon placed the ring under the Christmas tree and proposed. The Reverend Dr. Eugene Lowell officiated at the ceremony held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Nantucket, Massachusetts. A reception followed at Westmoor Farm on the island, where the couple performed a choreographed, energetic, swing dance to one of their favorite country songs.
The bride, daughter of Florence and Barry Peirce of Richmond, Virginia, graduated from the University of North Carolina. She will receive her doctorate from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 2013.
The groom, son of Beverly and John Watling of Greenwich, graduated from St. Paul’s School and Yale University.
Dr. Watling received his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a resident at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
The newlyweds reside in New York City.
