Emily and Justin, who goes by “Jay,” met at Middlebury College when Jay, a friend of Emily’s brothers, sublet his off-campus room to Emily one summer. When he returned a few weeks earlier than anticipated, he decided to camp out on the lawn. Emily had no choice but to get to know him and thus began their five-year courtship. Jay proposed on a hike in the Adirondacks, near where the couple shared their first kiss.
Emily’s cousin Paul Fulton and her brother Ted co-officiated at the ceremony, at the Adler family home in the Adirondacks. On the morning of the wedding, it was clear that there would be a serious rainstorm when the outdoor ceremony was scheduled to start. So the fast-thinking Adler clan moved the outdoor ceremony up a few hours, emptied the house of furniture to accommodate the 185 guests, and Emily was able to arrive as planned by canoe. When the rain finally stopped, a double rainbow graced the newlyweds. Toward the end of the evening, the band lead everyone across the meadow to watch a surprise fireworks show arranged by Emily’s five brothers.
The bride, daughter of Richard and Anne Adler of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich Academy and Middlebury College. Emily works for global design firm IDEO in San Francisco.
The groom, son of Ron Boren of Santa Fe and Susan Boren of Minneapolis, graduated from The Blake School and Middlebury College. Jay works for a tech start-up called TaskRabbit in San Francisco.
Mr. and Mrs. Boren spent their honeymoon on a bike trip through Northern Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia before returning home to San Francisco.
