Empy Constante, owner of Empy’s Day Spa, has been helping clients feel more confident, polished and beautiful for 40 years. Immigrating to the U.S. from Colombia as a young adult with her sister Gloria gave Constante the chance to finally pursue her lifelong dream of owning her own business centered around beauty.
“When I was younger, I would bring my friends to my house and do their makeup and hair all the time. I loved to transform people and to make them feel beautiful and gorgeous,” says Constante. “Believe it or not, I didn’t have my first manicure until I was 18. From that day, I knew that I wanted to learn how to do nails myself. So I just started learning. I wanted to create my own method of being able to give people a perfect manicure and pedicure,” she adds.
Constante first opened her spa in Greenwich with the name “Nails by Empy,” but at a client’s urging to find a name that felt more upscale, “Empy’s Day Spa” was officially born. The advice was sage, because Constante’s client list is now packed with posh, high-profile, long-time customers.
“When we started, it was just me, my sister, my niece and one other employee. We started with nothing,” she says. Business quickly boomed, and the spa now employs a team of 17. Those seeking spa services range in age from teenagers to those in their 90s. “The best thing is having multiple generations of clients from the same families. I feel so grateful when my clients come in with their daughters or mothers. I even have one family that consists of five generations!” she says.

What started with one determined founder now includes 17 employees, proof that great service never goes out of style.

“The absolute best part of my job is my clients. I’m so happy when they open my door. We aren’t like a regular salon. My employees know everyone’s names, and everyone knows my employees, because we’ve all known each other for so many years. It’s so satisfying.”
With a full range of services including manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials and hair services—everything from cuts to color, highlights and styling—the spa allows clients to receive multiple services all in one place. “I do a lot of work with brides and for bar and bat mitzvahs and private parties,” says Constante, who feels grateful to be part of these important life events.

“I love when my clients bring their children with them. I don’t charge for their services, because they are my future clients,” says Constante with a smile. “My clients are so generous and have such good hearts. They are very special people.”
