Meet Emily Rosnick. Celebrity makeup artist. Beauty Influencer. And Southport mom to two beautiful, young daughters, Harper and Poppy. Throughout her twenty-year career painting the faces of top models and A-listers—Kate Beckinsale and Hailee Steinfeld, to name two—and appearing on TV networks such as MSNBC and MTV, Emily has honed her skills, specializing in bridal and editorial makeup. Her unique dedication to her craft has allowed her to embrace both traditional and innovative techniques, the result of which is a renewed sense of personal beauty and timeless radiance for her devoted clients.
During the pandemic, when events came to a screeching halt, and makeup applications became an impossibility, Emily pivoted like the pro that she is and began using her Instagram platform to share her tips, tricks and product recommendations via informative tutorials that grew her following to influencer status. I sat down with Emily to find out the latest and greatest.
When did you first develop an interest in makeup and beauty?
“It was love at first blush! Actually, according to my mom, my affinity for makeup and beauty began in utero; she says I came out knowing I was going to be a makeup artist. In all seriousness, though, at a very young age, I was playing with her products and experimenting with them in a way that showed my innate interest. My first non-diaper-wearing gig was for a family friend who entrusted my skills at her wedding. I was only thirteen! After that, I continued to sharpen my basic skills for county dances and proms as a teenager.”
How did you parlay your passion into a career?
“When I graduated from Syracuse University, I quite literally took any job I could land. In the beginning, I even worked for free sometimes. Those experiences allowed me to build my portfolio and, as time went on, I reached out to photographers who were friends of friends and, therefore, trustworthy (very important when you’re starting out). They recommended me for more and more jobs, which allowed me to grow as an artist. From there, it all took on a bit of a life of its own. Remember, this was before social media, so I had to expand my client list organically through word of mouth. Once I had a few repeat clients under my belt, I was hired by Starworks Artists Agency. And the rest, as they say, is history.”
What services do you offer now?
“My main two offerings are makeup artistry/application for events and makeup lessons. The latter is a particular passion of mine, because it’s my mission to help clients not only look amazing for their most special occasions, but also to become self-sufficient and proficient in taking care of their skin and applying their own makeup.”
What are your three best beauty tips?
“First, skincare, skincare, skincare! Always prep your skin first. This means exfoliating before you apply makeup and don’t forget your primer. Just as you would prime the walls of your house, you prime your face before application. Second, since we don’t produce oils under our eyes, it’s very important to use eye cream before applying concealer or a color corrector. And, third, use your fingers or my personal favorite, a beauty blender, to help sheer down bronzer or blush.”
