Although Roland Lessard and Heather Makara attended the same nursery school, the pair did not become friends until the beginning of high school. As time progressed, friendship turned into courtship and they began dating while attending different colleges. After years of long-distance dating, they both received job offers in Manhattan and made the choice to move to Greenwich. The proposal took place on a beautiful August evening on Heather’s birthday in her college town of Boston. After dinner and a moonlit walk by the water, Roland dropped to one knee and asked Heather to marry him. To celebrate, they stopped into a local lounge, where the surprise birthday party that Roland and friends had planned turned into an engagement party.
Reverend Richard Gemza officiated at the ceremony at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich followed by a reception at Red Oak Mansion in West Harrison. During the cocktail hour, as a special tribute to the groom’s late father, Emile, some guests enjoyed fine cigars.
The bride, daughter of Cynthia and Thomas Makara of Bristol, graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School and Lasell College. Heather is a senior dental consultant for Ultradent.
The groom, son of Maryann Lessard and the late Emile Lessard of Bristol, graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School and Western New England University. Roland is senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions for Sterling Infosystems in New York City.
The Lessards honeymooned on Maui. They call Cos Cob home.
