Holly and Porter met while teaching third grade at Greenwich Country Day School. Since it’s hard for teachers to go incognito, the “news” quickly became public as the couple was spotted at restaurants by GCDS families. After four years of dating, Porter proposed to Holly on a beach in Weekapaug, Rhode Island (where the bride’s family has a summer home), with a sapphire and diamond ring that once belonged to his grandmother.
Reverend Robert Grabill officiated at the ceremony at First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, which was adorned with candles and holly, and a reception followed at Greenwich Country Club. Guests enjoyed traditional Christmas carols sung by the Greenwich Academy Madrigals.
The bride, daughter of Lawrence and Michele Haertel of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich Academy, Middlebury College and Bank Street College. Holly is a teacher at Greenwich Academy.
The groom, son of Douglas Hill and Alexandra Breed of New Hampshire, graduated from Deerfield Academy, Bowdoin College and Stanford University. Porter is a teacher at Greenwich Country Day School.
The Hills honeymooned in Sonoma. They call Greenwich home.
