After spotting George Richards III at Christmas Eve service, Susan (Susie) Burian had to know who he was. Little did she know, she would later run into him at a Christmas party she would attend with her sister that evening. Although George was just beginning to date again after becoming a widower, the two exchanged e-mail addresses, and it wasn’t long before they were dating.
Eleven months later, the two had dinner at Bonda, the location of their first date after playing in a paddle clinic at the Patterson Club. The corner table was reserved for Susie and George, and as Susie joked that the two should go out again sometime, George proposed.
The couple was married at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield by the Reverends Alida Ward and David Rowe. Family and friends celebrated the couple at the Patterson Club in Fairfield following the ceremony. George, Susie and George’s three children celebrated his late wife and remembered the love she gave them all.
Susie is the daughter of Barbara and Robert Burian of Fairfield. She attended Greens Farms Academy in Westport. The bride moved on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood special education from Gettysburg College.
The groom is the son of Sarah and Fredric Richards of Guilford. George attended Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, before receiving his bachelor’s degree in finance from Georgetown University. He then went on to receive his JD from Georgetown Law. The groom currently works as an attorney for Nemchek & Poeschl in Stamford.
The couple honeymooned in Belize before returning to their Fairfield home.
