The Lush Life

We all know Lush for its dedication to fresh, organic, hand-made soaps, shampoos, and other personal care products—but let's not forget the wonderful aroma. It's not artificial. Instead it's a hint of jasmine then vanilla, maybe a touch of cinnamon or citrus. It's invigorating.

With slabs of soaps, shower gels, facial cleansers, perfume, and even shampoo that you can cut into blocks, it's nearly impossible to resist wanting to touch and smell everything in the shop. But the shop doesn't curb shoppers' tactile need—if anything, it does a lot to encourage such exploration. The bath bombs, stacked in pyramids of color and shimmer, even has it's own station with a pot of water—so you can see Twilight (lavendar, ylang ylang and ovaltine) or All That Jas (jasmine and vetivert oil) fizz as the ball dissolves in a skin-loving, mood-inspiring bath. Some of these bath bombs have sparkles, like Space Girl.

Shimmer seems to be a popular trend here. Lush has the shine in a number of products, but the one that sure to be on the short wish list is the Shimmy Shimmy massage bar. It's a cream in a bar, and when you rub it on, bits of skin flattering shine remains. Fun! Plus, it smells yummy.

Lush also has a new line of organic makeup, too. Because it's organic, the salespeople say that you can use the products anywhere—eye shadow, eyeliner, lip gloss, even body paint. That's right, pick a green or red hue and write an inspirational word for the day on your arm. The rules here don't so much bend as break here, but all in a positive way. If you need inspiration, begin with the wheel of color, called "Emotional Brilliance." You pick three colors of the moment (the ones the "speak" to you) and flip over the disk to find out what that says about your mood: calm, happy, or curious. Then bring that color into your life to remind you of the qualities—such as power, health, or love—that you're drawn to.

As much fun as the place is, Lush the company vows high-quality, vegetarian ingredients and little or no preservatives or packaging. The fact that you can try anything says Lush is proud of what they offer and want shoppers to experience the difference.
