Piaule and Design Within Reach deliver a series of immersive, design-forward spaces in upstate New York
In November, the modernist cabin retreat Piaule unveiled a property-wide refresh through a collaboration with Design Within Reach. Rooted in a shared commitment to architecture, craft and purposeful design, the partnership introduces a series of updated spaces across the Catskill property, including a new private residence called the Oak House, refreshed cabin suites and a reworked Main House.
Led by Piaule co-founders Nolan McHugh and Trevor Briggs, the project centers on curating spaces with modern design icons, contemporary pieces and Piaule original furnishings. “We’ve always been drawn to DWR’s mission and the heritage behind its storied brands,” says McHugh. “Creating products and spaces that are made to last and stand the test of time is also at the core of Piaule’s intention.”
Throughout the property, furnishings from DWR Studio, Herman Miller, Fritz Hansen, Louis Poulsen, Vaarnii, Carl Hansen, Risom, Cassina and Muuto are selected for integrity and function. Materials are used intentionally: solid hardwood for durability, wool for floor coverings, leather for upholstery, glass to manage light and metal for long-lasting fixtures.
The Oak House, set on a private 20-acre parcel overlooking the Catskill Mountains, features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and direct outdoor access from every room. Furnishings in oak and natural finishes create a calm interior that prioritizes views and usability. Guests can book in-home experiences including yoga, private dining, spa treatments and floral workshops.
The Double Cabins and Main House have been similarly updated, with new seating from John Pawson’s Drift Collection for Herman Miller and Charlotte Perriand’s oak stools for Cassina. The furnishings recede just enough to let the views—and the quiet—do the heavy lifting.
