Amanda Smith first meet John Spatola, known as J.P., in a garden—but not just any garden. A beer garden, at a hotel, in the middle of Manhattan. Confident Amanda walked right up to a group of good-looking men; little did she know one of these handsome men would later become her husband. J.P. and Amanda dated for six months before getting engaged on Nantucket.
Father Ronald Broden officiated at the ceremony at Greenwich Country Club where the reception followed. Amanda’s father’s toast ended with him asking J.P.’s permission to dance with his new wife to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
The bride, daughter of Laurie and Frederick Smith of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich High School and Middlebury College. She is a prime services associate for Credit Suisse.
The groom, son of Pamela and Michael Spatola of Durham, North Carolina, graduated from Lawrence Academy, Hofstra University and Duke University Business School. J.P. is a trader for Nomura Securities.
Following a honeymoon in Anguilla, the couple returned home to New York City.
