A Handmade Holiday at CraftWestport

Holiday shopping is a lot more enjoyable when it involves discovering something unexpected rather than checking another name off a list. This weekend, CraftWestport offers a chance to do just that, bringing together artists, makers and independent businesses for two days of shopping, creativity and a little early holiday inspiration.

Now in its 48th year, CraftWestport returns to the Staples High School Field House on November 7 and 8, with approximately 165 exhibitors showcasing everything from handcrafted jewelry and fashion to fine art, home décor and distinctive gifts. Presented by the Women’s League of Westport and produced by Artrider Productions, the annual event has become a local tradition for shoppers looking for something beyond the usual retail offerings.

Part of the appeal is getting to meet the people behind the work. Visitors can browse collections, learn about different techniques and discover pieces they might not find anywhere else. There are also opportunities to get creative themselves.

At Shibumi Silks, shoppers can try their hand at water marbling to create a colorful silk scarf. Hey Babe Jewelry will offer permanent jewelry, while embroidery artist Vilma Mare of Baltic Style will demonstrate her craft, giving visitors a closer look at the artistry behind her designs.

For those who prefer their holiday shopping with something to snack on, a selection of specialty food vendors will offer gourmet treats to sample and bring home. Between the handmade finds, interactive experiences and edible gifts, there is plenty to explore even for those who arrive without a shopping list.

Beyond the opportunity to shop small, CraftWestport also supports the Women’s League of Westport and its philanthropic work benefiting local charities. It’s a chance to support independent artists and the community while getting a head start on the holidays.
