Fairfield’s Henry C. Reid Jewelers Is Shining Brighter Than Ever

Just in time for the holidays, designer-jewelry destination Henry C. Reid Jewelers unveils a designer transformation from Southport’s Moss Design and Hospitality Designer Christian P. Árkay-Leliever. Since 1910 Henry C. Reid Jewelers has offered the highest-quality diamonds and colored stones, watches, jewelry and giftware. When getting married, celebrating an anniversary, cheering on a recent graduate, turning Sweet 16 or another one of life’s most wonderful moments, locals drop into Henry C. Reid. Looking through the boutique’s selection is a treat and finding the perfect piece—the one that speaks to the moment—can be emotional. Understanding that is part of the jewelers’ success. Being family owned and run, it carries pieces that express love exquisitely.

Founded by a watch and clock maker, Henry C. Reid found itself in 2020 wanting a forwarding-looking refresher. It was time to update the shop. Still cozy, still handsome, still welcoming, but also for today’s look. This is what happens when one has an eye for beauty and creativity—one sees possibilities everywhere. That’s when it brought in Meghan De Maria and Courtney Yanni of Southport-based Moss Design, an award-winning, full-service interior design firm, in collaboration with exhibit, product, and hospitality designer Christian P. Árkay-Leliever to oversee the renovation.

The new look, unveiled this December, is contemporary, refined and, most of all, grand. Passersby will notice the entrance illuminated by large-scale lights from Connecticut-based Dunes & Duchess. Once inside, the jewelry shines brilliantly in high-gloss cabinets of a deep-ocean blue, warm lighting and an iconic Schumacher print on the ceiling. “We wanted to deliver the ‘wow factor’ to this space,” says Meghan De Maria, “and make the fabulous experience of shopping for fine jewelry even more intimate, transportive and special.”

“Working with Meghan and Courtney has helped us achieve just the right look and feel to complement Henry C. Reid’s melding of traditional, timeless pieces and custom-jewelry designs, providing our customers with a more experiential encounter each time they visit the store,” says Greg French, co-owner and president of Henry C. Reid. To encourage that “experiential” feel, the new space includes a beer-and-wine bar.

“For decades our family has been dedicated to offering our community the very best and we understand that this goes beyond the fine selection of jewelry to the total experience of being in the shop,” French adds. “We knew that Moss Design and Christian P. Árkay-Leliever could bring the creative eye to deliver a truly special and exciting experience for our clients.”

The design teams attended to every detail, from the rich colors and sophisticated textures to the focused lighting and thoughtful layout—all working in harmony to create a space to wander, relax and savor the moment.

The new space is open with COVID precautions, including by-appointment shopping.
