Historic Tour

Supporters of New Canaan’s public television service, NCTV79, toured one of the town’s favorite landmarks, the historic Crajah House on Oenoke Ridge, at a benefit for the station. Built in 1886, the home was once part of a 45-acre estate for gentleman farmer and distinguished professor Charles Riley Abbot, who lived there with his wife, Jane Anne Humphrey. The name “Crajah” is a combination of their individual initials. In addition to visiting all three floors of the home, guests were given the opportunity to explore the three antique restored barns, including one with a stable with five box stalls. These structures represent the bucolic New Canaan of the nineteenth century and are an important part of the town’s history. Tony Thompson, president of NCTV79, expressed thanks to the new owners of Crajah House, Kevin and Debbie McQuilkin, for sharing their historic home and barns with supporters of Channel 79.
