Leading Roles: Check Out These Movies & TV Shows Filmed in Your Town

Fairfield County might not have the Hollywood sign, but it’s been front and center on screens for decades. From classic films to Netflix originals and Disney+ hits, local streets, beaches, schools and homes have doubled as authentic backdrops. If you’ve ever watched a movie and thought, “That looks familiar,” you were probably right. Here’s where your favorite films and shows came to life in our towns.

New Canaan: The Noel Diaries (Netflix)

Netflix’s The Noel Diaries (2022) used New Canaan’s charming downtown as a real backdrop. Scenes feature city hall across from Chings Table designed as a makeshift winter Wonderland for its Holiday-themed setting, as well as local streets and storefronts—capturing the town’s small-town charm and holiday-ready vibe. New Canaan was also part of the iconic thriller The Stepford Wives (1975 and 2004), which filmed several suburban and residential scenes in town, giving classic Stepford neighborhoods their on-screen perfection.

Greenwich: The Family Stone (2005)

The 2005 holiday dramedy The Family Stone, starring Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Luke Wilson, used 144 Riverside Avenue as the family home. Its classic exterior and well-kept grounds make it instantly recognizable. While it’s private, a drive or stroll nearby lets you spot the house and the charming streets that brought the movie’s Greenwich setting to life.

Stamford: Revolutionary Road (2008), College Road Trip (2008), Chang Can Dunk (Disney+, 2023)

Stamford has had a surprising share of films across genres:

  • Revolutionary Road (2008) — Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet filmed at homes in Shippan, as well as beach sequences at Sasco Beach in nearby Fairfield.
  • College Road Trip (2008) — Starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symoné, the films diner scenes were shot at Lakeside Diner, a classic roadside spot.
  • Chang Can Dunk (2023) — The coming-of-age Disney+ sports film filmed key school sequences at Westhill High School.

Westport: A Storied Screen History

Westport has been a backdrop for decades of iconic films:

  • The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956)—extensive shots of the train station and downtown
  • The Swimmer (1968)—suburban pool scenes featuring local homes
  • The Stepford Wives (1975)—numerous scenes throughout Westport and Fairfield County
