This spring is going to be playful.
While pulling together this issue, our creative talent has poured over what’s hot in fashion and home design, and we see a trend: lighten up about brightening up. Have fun with bold, bright and optimistic colors, mix them, and watch them pop on white.
The timing is perfect. Spring is at our side, whispering sweet nothings about cheery flowers and puffy white clouds. We need such promises of renewal in our fashions and in our homes. Besides, spring never shies away from boasting vibrant colors; why should we?
The gorgeous cover shot, taken by photographer Stacy Bass, beautifully captures these elements. It’s a mixture of reserve and verve—and we at the office fell under its spell the moment we laid eyes on it. This amazing room and the whole home, flooded with natural light, mixes crisp white walls with a collection of bright artwork—and we have pages and pages to show you how gorgeously it succeeds.
Then, in our feature “Coasting,” we show you four magnificent estates with big personalities and one important shared attribute: an enviable view of the water.
We all had a great time finding these places, because, we admit, driving by breathtaking homes is not exactly the worst assignment. Art Director Venera Alexandrova and I had our hands full choosing, prepping, and shooting them—and I have to thank Hailey Durno for helping to organize the many details. We hope you’ll agree that these houses illustrate that unique ambiance of living along the water. I think you can’t do much better than this. Have a look. And with bold-and-bright fashions commanding the runways, we couldn’t wait to show you what will be glamming up the local boutiques this spring. We break down the hottest trends to create your quick-pick shopping guide. Prepare to gather up your spring wardrobe like a bouquet.
If you want to try something that’s fun in a different way, read our interview with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium, who will be speaking at Fairfield University. His perspective on the world—I mean, the universe—is, what can I say, a total blast. You won’t look at the night sky the same way after you read his opinion on the direction of the space program, how to inspire the next generation of scientists, and why you should care the about Apollo 8 mission. He had us at, “Higgs boson.”
